I have a New England that my wife bought for me in the late 90's with a 30-.06 barrel. I then sent it to the factory and got it fitted with a full choke .20 gauge barrel, exchangeable choke .12 gauge barrel, and a .20 gauge rifled slug barrel. I shot the 20 ga for years with no problems but then all of the sudden I had to push the shell into the chamber instead of dropping it in and if I shot it, the shell would not eject, I would have to take a cleaning rod and nock it out. I had never shot the 12 ga so I changed barrels and for the first 2 shot, it loaded shot and ejected fine but the 3rd shot the same problem. I changed to the slug barrel which had been shot before and it had the same problem. I have not tried the 30-06 out of fear. I contacted the only gunsmith I could find where I live and he said the chamber of each barrel just needs to be bored out a little. Thats all fine and good, but there must be something that is causing this and I don't want to pay a bunch of money just to have it happen again. Any thoughts on my problem? Is getting the chambe.rs bored out going to fix the problem? Who can I found out from? PS..The gunsmith I talked to here also teaches gunsmith at the regional community college.

I have owned several Harrington Richardson and H & R rifles and shot guns and I thank they are really great guns for the money. I have given several away to my children and grand children. My personal favorite is the H & R Buffalo Classic 45 70. Out to 200 yards with peep sights it is dead on. I have Killed a lot with it and one shot from the 45 70 - 405 drops them on spot.

I have a,well now its sawed off ,I bought it like that, a 20 gauge single shot shotgun made by New England Fire Arm Company with a pistol grip (wooden)handle, and it's a really beautiful tight little shot gun that I take up into the mountains while I'm cutting firewood for sale. you can shoot it about as fast as you can feed them in LOL. Hello sir, thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, I don't have those numbers as they were acquired by Marlin/Remington and their manufacturing data isn't listed separately as far as I can tell and the ATF didn't collect this information when H&R was still a proprietary manufacturer.

Thank you, Sam, for your history of the H&R company, for years the leader of affordable shotguns for the average and budget minded citizen. Unfortunately, in this more modern era, manufacturers are more interested in their profit margins than in producing a quality product. Do you have any idea how many on average of the New England Pardner line of 12 gauge single shot shotguns were produced annually?
