If cartridges are nose-diving and catching on the bottom of the feed ramp, that is, in fact, a magazine problem. It sounds like either the feed lips aren't holding the top cartridge at a high enough angle to feed reliably or the magazine spring is insufficiently strong, allowing the top cartridge to "porpoise" and nose-dive as the slide moves forward. Slide release problems also point to a problem with the magazine spring.

If I were one of Remington's engineers, and I'm not, my fix would be to add another coil or two of magazine spring, to increase the force lifting the stack of cartridges and hold the top cartridge more firmly. This would reduce the magazine capacity by 1-2 rounds, but them's the breaks.

i bought an RP9 brand new for my dad for christmas and the first time we took it to the range it jammed at least 1 time on every magazine. It is a pretty accurate and powerful gun, but has some serious mechanical flaws

I shot the RP9 3x. 1st time i shot this, was perfect, very accurate. Made me sold my last polymer Hipoint. 2nd time wasn't bad it. Today shot it, it kept jamming as describe, where the bullet doesn't feed. and will sometimes have a failure to eject...... Comparison to my 2 1911, M&P, and others this was now worst than the HIpoint I sold.. The hipoint I had never jammed...... other than being a heavy brick...

I've shoot over 1000 rounds and have never had one problem. No it's not a glock, which i also own. But for the money it's a great gun. Maybe it's just the day mine was built, but i say i have a good one.100% happy with my gun.

i just picked an RP9 up for under $200. so far 100% reliable. trigger is good for the genre. normal takeup, when sear breaks there's minimum trigger overtravel. reset is both tactile and audible (when i'm not wearing plugs and muffs). my trigger pull measures 4 lbs. 15oz. +/- 1.5 oz. field stripping is pretty easy after i took it shooting for the first time. several tries to get it field stripped out of the box but after the first range session, field stripping it was easy. probably starting to get it broken in. my accuracy (so far) with 124gr. ball ammo is 6" group at 25 yards for a 50 round box. i'm not the best shot.
pros: outstanding value, good trigger, easy to field strip, 100% reliable (so far).
cons: getting the 17th and 18th round in the magazines was more difficult than the first 16. hoping that gets easier as i use it more.

In reply to <a href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/full-size/remington-rp9-review/#comment-18760">Richard Edwards</a>.

Hi Richard, I hear your concern but it seems as though you didn't read the article entirely. I made it clear that the RP9 "is not anything special, nor is it a piece of junk. It is a moderately-priced 9mm handgun. No more, no less." and "Some people bought their RP9 handgun and never had to face a single issue. Remington’s customer service has always been helpful, but honestly – for a company with such a proud history and reputable name – I would expect more of them." I also never advocate for using this full-size pistol as a CCW.

You get what you pay for. The MSRP is a bit over $400, and in shops (on and offline) you can usually find it for a price of between $300 to $400. The second, and perhaps more serious, issue was that rounds would get caught in a space at the edge of the feed ramp, causing the gun to jam. So from your article, a firearm that costs $300 to $400 should be expected to jam. Tell me, just exactly how much would a person have to pay to have a firearm that ACTUALLY FUNCTIONED as it was designed to function. Five Hundred dollars; six hundred dollars; maybe seven hundred dollars, would that meet your criteria for a firearm carried for self defense that wouldn't get you killed? Stop making excuses for the big gun companies. Is it an affordable and viable piece of weaponry? Absolutely! So you think a gun known to jam quite a bit is a viable piece of weaponry. I think we disagree a lot on what a weapon is expected to do, even if it only cost a $100. It should function correctly!!!
