The black teflon-like finish did not coincide exactly with gen 3. I have an early gen 3 Glock 19 (before 9mm Glocks got the locking block pin) that has the matte parkerized (phosphate) slide finish, a gen 3 Glock 17 with the teflon-like finish, and a later Glock 19 with a slide finish that is rougher than the 17's finish but shinier than the other 19's finish. It's more textured than the other finishes, and seems to have kind of a fine pebble grain appearance.

I'd like to know who (if anyone) can apply the finish the 17 came with (the one that looks like a teflon frying pan), or even just what it is called (surely "teflon-like" is not the only name). I would like to put that finish on my other Glock slides, It's not as grabby in-hand as the other finishes, but that's why the slide has the serrations on the sides in back.

The "teflon-like" finish is by far the most corrosion resistant of the three. I carry IWB in a hot, dry climate, and the salt from sweat builds up as the water evaporates, and within a few hours, even a freshly treated (with whatever oil or protectant I use) slide begins to pit. Both of my 19 slides pitted, but the 17 is like new (and I probably carried the 17 the most). I could wipe down a stainless gun with Sheath, car wax, or any gun oil I tried, and after being out a few hours, I would get back home and find dots of rust on the stainless.

I'd like to refinish the 19 slides to prevent further pitting. Anything black, extremely durable, and extremely rust resistant would fit, and the teflon-like finish fits.

I bought a used Glock 23 generation 2, and I was completely shocked by the accuracy and the quality of the overall firearm. I purchased it as a police surplus gun. You can definitely tell that Glock put more quality in the earlier firearms. I owned a gen 4 Glock 19 and it's nowhere the same quality. If you can find a gen 2 or an early gen 3 with the black teflon finish buy it!!!! Quality does not last forever. Gen 4"s and the new released gen 5. Is a joke

My G23 Gen 4 finish seems to be tougher
My G19 Gen 4 is a personal firearm and G17 Gen 4 is duty carry. The 17 has been in and out of holster with no wear on it like 19 which has not been in and out holster as much and has wear.
The 17 and 19 was just got not long ago. The 23 I have had long time.
Don't know how one glock of same generation can show more wear than another of same generation.
