Savage Arms is one of America’s oldest gunmakers that has been pumping out noteworthy firearms since the late 1800’s. Since then, the New England-based manufacturer has become the 3rd largest producer of long arms, trailing just behind Ruger and Remington. While they’ve traditionally focused on a niche market, Savage has now reinserted themselves back into the spotlight with their impressive modern sporting rifles. It should come to no surprise to see Savage develop with the times, considering founder Arthur Savage was famous for his ingenuity and innovation. Now, let’s take a closer look at one of the oldest firearms manufacturer’s introduction into the AR platform.

Savage MSR

This isn’t yet another company making an effort to establish themselves in the AR market, it’s a true product of fine engineering and premium quality. In fact, Savage now offers a diverse lineup of tactical rifles in a variety of calibers and designs. This new line of next-gen semi-auto rifles promises to deliver high-powered performance that won’t break the bank.

Savage MSR 10

The Savage MSR 10 collection was built on the classic AR-10 platform, offering slightly tactical differences compared to the more popular AR-15. Although these platforms are nearly identical, AR-10s are usually heavier, longer, and fire more powerful cartridges. As with most other Savages, you can expect unmatched precision rifled barrels, excellent caliber diversity, premium components, and impressive durability.

Savage MSR 10 Hunter

The Savage MSR 10 Hunter offers all of the features shooters love about AR-10s, but in a compact and modern build. In addition to its high-end materials, such as Melonite QPQ finish, nickel-boron treatment, and 7075 aluminum receiver, the Hunter offers tremendously versatile performance with each use. I will say that I was surprised that they outsourced a few components, like the BLACKHAWK! KNOXX AR Pistol Grip and trigger.

I recently got the chance to take out the Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor to take down some big boar and it operated flawlessly. Although they are completely different rifles, shooting the MSR 10 reminded me of the .308 Ruger American. The Savage rifle had intuitive controls, excellent handling, and was extremely well-balanced.

The Savage MSR 15 Recon is the ultimate out-of-the-box AR that is both affordable and unrelenting. The New England Manufacturer loaded these rifles with BLACKHAWK! The MSR 15 Patrol is no ordinary rifle on the AR-platform. I was a big fan of the AXIOM Carbine stock and unique BLACKHAWK! Handguard. Combine that with a surprisingly ergonomic AR pistol grip and unusually effective flip-up sight system, and you’ve got a rifle you’re not going to want to miss.
