You'd think accuracy leeway wouldn't be an issue in any discussion involving firearms; it's either accurate or it's not. Anything important enough to be communicated is AT LEAST important enough to be communicated ACCURATELY. Heads up; communication accuracy involves pernickety details like grammar & spelling......... facts that seem to have been lost now for (maybe) 2 generations. Carry on!

I have a Axis 243. New. Bolt dos not fully close when ammo is chambered. Sent to Savage for warranty. Returned in same condition. Savage states I need to purchase Nossler 243 as that is what they use and the gun works okay with that ammo.
I have Winchester 243. New, not reloads.
With the impossibility of locating 243 ammo, I am likely going to return the rifle to savage again for ?????

Navoe,
Check you scope, rings and base to make sure they are all secure before you give up on your rifle. Many "bad" rifles just had poorly mounted / loose optics

I bought a Savage Axis package rifle in .223, with the nameless model Bushnell scope. I have owned Savage 110's in various calibers over the last few decades, and the AXIS will hold it's own with any of them...and yes, they WILL outshoot the
high priced "good" rifles all day long. Not the prettiest thing on earth, but they look a lot better after you shoot them for a while.
Oh, and to the EXPERTS who wrote and commented here - it's a muzzle BRAKE not break. You might want to check your spelling before you put something online.

In reply to <a href="https://gunivore.com/rifle/savage-axis-bolt-action-review/#comment-10976">Ja te</a>.

Just for the record muzzle breaks don't improve accuracy! Accuracy is inherent in the rifle and it's configuration. All the muzzle break does is calm the nerves of a recoil conscious shooter so he or she can pay attention to the sight picture and trigger pull. However, some people balk or flinch because of the extra noise from the muzzle break which can also be detrimental to getting really tight groups. So --- muzzle breaks can be a love hate situation depending on the shooter.
As for myself at 75 years of age I like the
breaks on the heavier calibers because there's little sense in taking a beating if you don't have to. Ear protection is highly recommended if you're going to be using a break though.
The point here is that if your rifle doesn't shoot well a muzzle break won't make it actually shoot any better. The break might help the shooter to do his or her job better though. Assuming a properly installed break, the rifle will shoot the same with or without the break. That's my 2 cents on the subject.

The axis can’t compare with a browning or model 700 I’ve owned too many bolt guns. However, the savage model 12,10,11,14, and 16 (which all have the same receiver design) are great actions. They will not only compete with 700 and browning, but flat outshoot them. I like the savages and Thompson Center. The tc compass is less expensive than the axis, and even comes with a threaded muzzle. I own one in a 270. It shoots well with the brake. Shoots Barnes 129 grain boat tail hunting round with 3/4 inch groups being normal. If the axis had a muzzle brake, it would shoot just as well I’m sure. I was getting inch and a half to two inch groups with three different axis rifles. Two in 308, and one in a 270. The 270 producing the tightest inch and a half groups. But the are accurate enough to hunt deer to 300. I’ve heard that the 223 caliber and 22 250 can produce sub minute groups. Most likely due to the smaller diameter rounds . They produce better harmonics in the thin barrels of the axis. Just my two cents. Trying to help, based on experience. Savage 12 fv at Cabela’s right now being sold for 399.00. The axis is forty dollars less. You can get a lot more rifle for that forty dollars. I could compete with mine. Got one in a 6.5 creedmoor.
