<p>It’s safe to say that the firearms market is doing well. In fact, we witnessed the second highest year in <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/nics">NICS firearm background checks</a>, falling just behind the 2016 record. Between concealed carriers, competition shooters, and home defense, more and more people are buying guns. However, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.springfield-armory.com/resources/concealed-carry-infographic/" target="_blank">recent polls</a> show that 2 in 3 gun owners claim protection as their main reason for owning a firearm. That being the case, we figured it was worthwhile to discuss some of the best guns for home defense. </p>

<h2 id="doc1"></h2>

<p>It’s always been Man’s duty to protect his home. Even before the 2nd Amendment, it was Man’s God-given responsibility to defend his family and homestead. Although firearms have been the weapon of choice for home defense for centuries, they have developed unfathomably. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="600" height="520" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/More-Guns-Less-Violence-Infographic.jpg" alt="More Guns Less Violence Infographic" class="wp-image-12311" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/More-Guns-Less-Violence-Infographic.jpg 600w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/More-Guns-Less-Violence-Infographic-300x260.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/More-Guns-Less-Violence-Infographic-69x60.jpg 69w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption>More Guns, Less Violence Chart</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the need for a home defense weapon, though I’ve begun to doubt that assertion in light of recent events. Assuming we can all be sensible adults and recognize that there are evil people in the world and therefore guns in the home are necessary, there is one study in particular which shows just how crucial they can be. </p>

<p>Kennesaw, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta) passed a law in 1982 compelling all homeowners to keep at least one firearm in their homes at all times. Unsurprisingly, the once crime-ridden community experienced a remarkable 89&amp; drop in the burglary rate in the ensuing months. Moreover, Kennesaw’s burglary rate was still over 70% lower over a decade later. This shows with certainty that legally-owned firearms in the house are an effective crime deterrent. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="800" height="737" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Crimes-Prevented-by-Guns-Graph.jpg" alt="Crimes Prevented by Guns Graph" class="wp-image-12312" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Crimes-Prevented-by-Guns-Graph.jpg 800w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Crimes-Prevented-by-Guns-Graph-300x276.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Crimes-Prevented-by-Guns-Graph-768x708.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Crimes-Prevented-by-Guns-Graph-65x60.jpg 65w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Crimes Prevented by Guns</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Furthermore, studies by the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.nap.edu/read/18319/chapter/3#15" target="_blank">CDC</a> and famed criminologists <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0022427898035002004" target="_blank">Kleck and Gertz</a> confirm just how effective guns are at stopping crime in its tracks. Together, their combined data indicated that defensive gun use isn’t just common, it’s often more effective than police. In fact, rough estimates suggest that there are somewhere between 500,000 to 3+ million defensive gun uses per year. No matter how you cut it, it’s clear that guns keep Americans safe. The good news is, a recent <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/07/15/the-demographics-and-politics-of-gun-owning-households/" target="_blank">Pew poll</a> found that approximately 40% of American homes have at least one firearm. </p>

<h3 id="doc2"><h2>Home Defense Gun</h2>

<p>There are so many factors to consider before buying a home defense gun that it can be quite daunting for many people. Even if you think you’ve found the perfect firearm, you still have to consider how and where you want to store it in addition to which <a href="https://gunivore.com/top-5-lists/top-self-defense-calibers/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="caliber and type of ammo (opens in a new tab)">caliber and type of ammo</a> you want to use. For instance, these shooters have to factor in cost of ammo, stopping power, recoil, capacity, and user-friendliness. That being the case, there’s no right answer for what is the best gun for home defense. However, we’ve broken it down for you by category of firearm in the hopes that you can make the right choice for yourself. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="800" height="670" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Location-of-Defensive-Gun-Uses-Graph.jpg" alt="Location of Defensive Gun Uses Graph" class="wp-image-12313" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Location-of-Defensive-Gun-Uses-Graph.jpg 800w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Location-of-Defensive-Gun-Uses-Graph-300x251.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Location-of-Defensive-Gun-Uses-Graph-768x643.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Location-of-Defensive-Gun-Uses-Graph-72x60.jpg 72w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Location of Defensive Gun Uses</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3 id="doc3"><h2>Home Defense Shotgun</h2>

<p>When it comes to home defense shotguns few names stick out more than <a href="https://www.mossberg.com/firearms/shotguns/">Mossberg</a>. The iconic gunmaker is the proud manufacturer of several great tactical shotguns, especially their <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="new 590 Shockwave (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/shotguns/mossberg-590-shockwave-review/" target="_blank">new 590 Shockwave</a>. This nifty little scattergun is a formidable choice for any homeowner looking to protect their family and property. In addition to its incredible specs and reputation, the Shockwave made headlines for its <a href="https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/which-firearms-are-regulated-under-nfa" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label=" (opens in a new tab)">non-NFA status</a>, despite it being a short-barreled shotgun. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="778" height="272" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Mossberg-590-Shockwave.jpg" alt="Shockwave" class="wp-image-8857" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Mossberg-590-Shockwave.jpg 778w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Mossberg-590-Shockwave-600x210.jpg 600w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Mossberg-590-Shockwave-300x105.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Mossberg-590-Shockwave-768x269.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 778px) 100vw, 778px" /><figcaption>Mossberg 590 Shockwave</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul><li>Model: 590 Shockwave</li><li>Action: Pump</li><li>Gauge: 12, 20, .410 </li><li>Chamber: 3&#8243;</li><li>Capacity: 6</li><li>Barrel Length: 14.4&#8243;</li><li>Overall Length: 26.4&#8243;</li><li>Stock: Raptor Grip / Corn Forend w/ Strap </li><li>Weight: Approx. 5 lbs.</li><li>MSRP: $504</li></ul>

<p>You may also want to consider the new and improved DP-12 shotgun. The <a href="https://www.stdgun.com/">Standard Manufacturing</a> bullpup (yes, a bullpup shotgun!) pump-action can hold a ton of cartridges and is built to hold any accessory you can imagine. Although they may be quite expensive, they are sturdy as all hell and won’t disappoint when you need it the most. These shotguns are also a bit heavy, so keep that in mind, but they are also easier to handle than traditionally built scatterguns. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter is-resized"><img src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-1024x422.jpg" alt="DP 12 Shotgun" class="wp-image-12039" width="814" height="336" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-1024x422.jpg 1024w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-300x124.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-768x316.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-146x60.jpg 146w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun-1170x485.jpg 1170w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/DP-12-Shotgun.jpg 1177w" sizes="(max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px" /><figcaption>DP 12 Shotgun</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul><li>Model: DP-12</li><li>Action: Pump</li><li>Gauge: 12 Ga.</li><li>Chamber: 2 x 18 7/8”, chambered for 2 ¾” or 3&#8243; shells</li><li>Capacity: 16 Total</li><li>Barrel Length: 19&#8243;</li><li>Overall Length: 29.5&#8243;</li><li>Stock: Synthetic</li><li>Weight: 9 lbs. 12 oz.</li><li>MSRP: $1,725</li></ul>

<p>I feel the need to at least mention the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Kel-Tec KSG (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/shotguns/kel-tec-ksg-shotgun/" target="_blank">Kel-Tec KSG</a> since it is incredibly popular, affordable, and user-friendly. The <a href="https://www.keltecweapons.com/shotguns/ksg">Kel-Tec tactical shotgun</a> is anything but classic thanks to its 15-round capacity, unusual dual barrel bullpup design, and insane customizability. It’s by no means the perfect firearm, but it can certainly hold its own as a home defense shotgun.&nbsp; </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="900" height="491" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/KSG-Tactical.jpg" alt="KSG Tactical Shotgun" class="wp-image-12314" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/KSG-Tactical.jpg 900w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/KSG-Tactical-300x164.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/KSG-Tactical-768x419.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/KSG-Tactical-110x60.jpg 110w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption>Kel-Tec KSG Tactical</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul><li>Model: KSG Tactical</li><li>Action: Pump</li><li>Gauge: 12 Ga.</li><li>Chamber: 3&#8243;</li><li>Capacity: 8+1</li><li>Barrel Length: 13.5&#8243;</li><li>Overall Length: 21.5&#8243;</li><li>Stock: Synthetic</li><li>Weight: 6.2 lbs.</li><li>MSRP: $1,200</li></ul>

<h3 id="doc4"><h2>Home Defense Pistol</h2>

<p>Picking the right home defense pistol is tough since it really depends on the shooter to find the specs geared for them. While many shooters want the stopping power of a .45, some prefer the ease of a 9mm. That being the case, we’re going to look at a few different styles of pistols. </p>

<p>I’m a big fan of the <a href="https://fnamerica.com/products/pistols/fnx-45-tactical/">FNX-45 Tactical</a> because it’s dependable and packs a serious punch. Besides for its enhanced grips and sight system, the FNX-45 is fully-ambidextrous, features interchangeable backstraps, and offers a pretty sizable capacity. This isn’t the gun to carry on your hip, it’s the kind of pistol you want in your night stand. </p>

<ul><li>Model: FNX-45 Tactical </li><li>Caliber: .45 ACP</li><li>Capacity: 15+1</li><li>Barrel Length: 5.3”</li><li>Overall Length: 8.6”</li><li>Height: 6.5”</li><li>Width: 1.58”</li><li>Weight: 33.3 oz. </li><li>Finish: Matte Black</li><li>Sights: 3-Dot Night Sights</li><li>MSRP: $1,349</li></ul>

<p>I gotta recognize Ruger for their amazing strides in improving their collection of pistols, especially the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="American (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/ruger-american-pistol-review/" target="_blank">American</a>. The new and improved Ruger American Pistol is a great choice for carrying or home defense, plus it’s affordable and customizable. Besides for its integrated Picatinny rail and Novak LoMount Carry Sights, the <a href="https://ruger.com/products/rugerAmericanPistol/models.html">Ruger American</a> provides shooters with enhanced grips, low recoil, ambidextrous controls, and a multi-safety system. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="600" height="442" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Ruger-American-Pistol.jpg" alt="Ruger American " class="wp-image-12316" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Ruger-American-Pistol.jpg 600w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Ruger-American-Pistol-300x221.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Ruger-American-Pistol-81x60.jpg 81w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption>Ruger American Pistol</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul><li>Model: Ruger American Pro </li><li>Caliber: 9mm</li><li>Capacity: 10+1</li><li>Barrel Length: 4.2”</li><li>Overall Length: 7.5”</li><li>Height: 5.6”</li><li>Width: 1.05”</li><li>Weight: 30 oz. </li><li>Finish: Black Nitride</li><li>Sights: Novak LoMount Carry Sights</li><li>MSRP: $579</li></ul>

<p><a href="https://shopkahrfirearmsgroup.com/">Kahr Arms</a> is one of the most overlooked pistol brands in the industry and it’s a real shame. The American gunmaker produces several great guns, many of which are incredibly affordable, including the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="P380 and CW380 (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/kahr-arms-380-review/" target="_blank">P380 and CW380</a>. I picked these because they are highly concealable and for their unique caliber. While the .380 ACP cartridge is often considered the bare minimum for defensive purposes, it has way more stopping power than people think. All things considered, I wouldn’t choose .380 for my home defense, but it is a great choice for some shooters. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="500" height="500" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380.jpg" alt="Kahr 380 Pistol" class="wp-image-10994" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380.jpg 500w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380-150x150.jpg 150w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380-300x300.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380-160x160.jpg 160w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Kahr-380-320x320.jpg 320w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /><figcaption>Kahr 380</figcaption></figure></div>

<ul><li>Model: Kahr CW380</li><li>Caliber: .380 ACP</li><li>Capacity: 6+1</li><li>Barrel Length: 2.58”</li><li>Overall Length: 4.96”</li><li>Height: 3.9”</li><li>Width: 0.75”</li><li>Weight: 10.2 oz. </li><li>Finish: Black polymer frame, matte <g class="gr_ gr_231 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="231" data-gr-id="231">stainless-steel</g> slide </li><li>Sights: Adjustable white bar-dot combat rear, pinned front </li><li>MSRP: $419</li></ul>

<h3 id="doc5"><h2>Revolver for Home Defense</h2>

<p>As one of the most classic firearm designs on the planet, there’s no denying the power of a solid revolver. Interestingly enough, we are actually in the midst of a revolver revolution, where many companies are reintroducing modern variations of the traditional revolver. For example, the <a href="https://gunivore.com/revolver/colt-cobra-review/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Colt Cobra (opens in a new tab)">Colt Cobra</a> has made a big comeback and found its way into the hearts of many home defense shooters. The redesigned .38 Special six-shooter is gorgeous and an overall pleasure to shoot and own.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<ul><li>Model: Colt Cobra</li><li>Caliber: .38 Special +P </li><li>Capacity: 6</li><li>Barrel Length: 2”</li><li>Overall Length: 7.2”</li><li>Weight: 25 oz. </li><li>Finish: Stainless Steel Matte </li><li>Sights: Fiber-Optic Front, Frame Trench Rear</li><li>MSRP: $699</li></ul>

<p>If you’re looking for an interesting revolver for home defense than do yourself a favor and check out the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Taurus Public Defender (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/brands/taurus-firearms-company-review" target="_blank">Taurus Public Defender</a>. Taurus is becoming more popular each year, especially in light of their impressive collection of revolvers. Besides for their affordability, these firearms are known for their user-friendliness and dependable designs. The award-winning Public Defender is a nifty small frame five-shooter, chambering .45 Long Colt (410 Ga), so you know you’ve got yourself a powerful hand cannon. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="800" height="493" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Taurus-Judge-Public-Defender.jpg" alt="Taurus Public Defender" class="wp-image-12318" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Taurus-Judge-Public-Defender.jpg 800w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Taurus-Judge-Public-Defender-300x185.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Taurus-Judge-Public-Defender-768x473.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Taurus-Judge-Public-Defender-97x60.jpg 97w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /><figcaption>Taurus Judge Public Defender</figcaption></figure></div>

<h3 id="doc6"><h2>AR 15 Home Defense</h2>

<p>With so many impressive AR-15’s on the market, there’s almost no wrong choice for home defense. Nevertheless, there are a few models which stick out to me as solid choices for standing your ground. I happen to love Savage rifles and have recently picked up their <a href="https://gunivore.com/rifle/savage-msr-series-review/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="MSR Patrol (opens in a new tab)">MSR Patrol</a>. The innovative rifle is loaded with premium features, including a sweet AXIOM carbine stock and surprisingly effective flip-up sight system. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img width="812" height="267" src="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Savage-MSR-15-Patrol.jpg" alt="Savage MSR " class="wp-image-9811" srcset="https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Savage-MSR-15-Patrol.jpg 812w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Savage-MSR-15-Patrol-300x99.jpg 300w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Savage-MSR-15-Patrol-768x253.jpg 768w, https://gunivore.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Savage-MSR-15-Patrol-600x197.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 812px) 100vw, 812px" /><figcaption>Savage MSR 15 Patrol</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 (opens in a new tab)" href="https://gunivore.com/brands/am15-review/" target="_blank">Anderson Manufacturing AM-15</a> is one of the most underrated AR15s on the market. Besides for their fair price-tag and reputation, these entry-level rifles offer everything you need in a home defense AR. The AM-15 is most well-known for its proprietary RF85 treatment, which essentially guarantees you never have to lube your gun – how sweet is that? However, I really like the AM-15 pistol for home defense, considering its enhanced versatility, Magpul furniture, and tactical capabilities.</p>

<h3 id="doc7"><h3>Conclusion </h3>

<p>There are so many paths you can take to properly arm yourself for home defense, but the important thing is that you take the first step. There is virtually no excuse to not be prepared, the only question is how exactly you’ll do it. Either way, please let us know your thoughts and recommendations for the best home defense weapons.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With the 2018 SHOT SHOW just a few short months away, it’s time that we look back at this year’s best new concealed carry weapons (CCWs). Americans are buying guns faster than ever, and many of us are choosing to carry our weapons proudly. In fact, a recent <a href="https://crimeresearch.org/2017/07/new-study-16-3-million-concealed-handgun-permits-last-year-saw-largest-increase-ever-number-permits/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crime Prevention Research Center survey</a> found that there are well over sixteen million concealed handgun permits in the U.S. Plus keep in mind that these numbers don’t take into account the dozen states which don’t require a permit – which most certainly boosts the total. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In any case, with the rising demand for concealable firearms, more and more companies are producing their own styles of CCWs. As a result, there’s a CCW for everybody! Whether you prefer old-fashioned revolvers, new-age super compact semi-autos, reimagined <a href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/sig-sauer-1911-pistol-series-review-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">1911s</a>, or what have you, there are countless options available. Furthermore, with so much competition, many of these great firearms have become increasingly affordable. While there are still top-shelf CCWs like the Springfield Armory EMP ($1,100) and the Kimber Classic Carry Elite ($1,550) you’ve also got reasonable choices like the Hi-Point C9 ($155) the <a href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/kel-tec-p-32-review/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kel-Tec P32</a> ($230).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In this week’s edition of </span><a href="https://gunivore.com/?s=Fast+Five&amp;submit=Search" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Gunivore’s</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Fast Five</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, I’d like to go through this year’s best concealable carry weapons. However, because there are so many, I’d like to focus on those which are readily available and offer an excellent </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">bang for your buck</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<h3 id="doc1"></h3>
<h2>CZ-USA P-10</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The new striker-fired <a href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/glock-19-vs-cz-p-09/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CZ CCW</a> is interesting because while not possessing any new noteworthy features, it’s still one of the most intuitive carry pistols of the year. Fans of the P-10 love its improved durability and ergonomics. By incorporating three interchangeable (and comfortable) backstraps, the new CZ is sure to feel great in any hand.</span></p>

<h2>RUGER AMERICAN COMPACT</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://gunivore.com/brands/ruger-firearms-company-history-and-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Ruger</a> American has been a popular carry weapon for years, but 2017’s new model improved on the already remarkable semi-auto. So many of the Ruger’s new features contribute to making the Compact an ideal CCW. Measuring in at only 1” wide, the unique design of the Ruger sits comfortably no matter how you carry. Additionally, in order to make it as versatile as possible, the new American features interchangeable grip modules, extended mag options, fully ambidextrous controls, and an excellent set of <a href="https://www.novaksights.com/products.aspx?CAT=9605" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Novak LoMount Carry Sights</a>. While not the cheapest option in my list, the new Ruger is an extraordinary firearm that really offers the most </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">bang for your buck</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>

<h2>SPRINGFIELD ARMORY EMP4</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://gunivore.com/brands/springfield-armory-company-overview-and-history/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Springfield Armory</a> has established itself as one of America’s finest manufacturers of all things firearms. With their incredible lineup of rifles and handguns, it’s their collection of 1911s that really stands out to me. However, this year’s <a href="https://gunivore.com/pistol/springfield-1911-series-pistol-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">1911 EMP4</a> Concealed Carry Contour model may have just proven itself to be one of the best CCWs in the industry. While keeping true to the historic 1911 design, Springfield made a few key adjustments to ensure its superior carrying ability and control. By slimming the EMP down, cutting out excess weight, and giving it smooth contours, SA’s new and improved EMP4 is something to behold. Although not considered an affordable choice for many folks, I firmly believe that, in terms of </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">bang for your buck</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, the EMP4 is worth every penny.</span></p>

<h2>WALTHER CREED</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Walther handguns combine top-grade German engineering and reliable performance, but at a price. Thankfully, they released the new Creed as their premier price point firearm. Based on the old PPX design, this 9mm handgun isn’t the most expensive but is also not their best quality either. The legendary German manufacturer wanted to offer a product for those people looking for a reliable and affordable personal protection pistol, and they delivered. They are easy to carry, plenty durable, and wickedly accurate. I highly recommend <a href="https://www.waltherarms.com/handguns/creed/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the Creed</a> for young or inexperienced shooters; its full size frame, low recoil, and lightweight build make it a breeze to handle and control. Lastly, the Creed offers such amazing user-friendliness; malfunctions and jams are rare plus it offers a stress-free takedown.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">What a pleasant surprise it was to find out that Colt was rereleasing their classic snub-nose revolver. Yet, since nearly every component in the new 2017 edition has been improved, it bears little resemblance to the original 1950 model. Hands down, my favorite mod on the new Cobra is the unbelievable Hogue rubber grips with finger grooves. This new and improved grip system totally revolutionized the Colt snub nose delivering ergonomic and intuitive handling. Even as a revolver, it&#8217;s toward the top of the list of the best new CCWs. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In another attempt at modernizing the American classic, Colt engineered what they call the “<a href="https://www.shootingillustrated.com/articles/2017/1/4/colt-introduces-cobra-revolver/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Linear Leaf Mainspring</a>”. Basically, what this new feature does is ensure consistently smooth and reliable trigger pulls. It’s slim, it’s sexy, it’s durable, it’s got it all!</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some people might think of revolvers as the handgun of the past, but 2017 has seen the release of some seriously impressive new wheel guns. Yes, semi-autos are still way more popular, but revolvers are seeing a comeback of sorts. As a matter of fact, <a href="https://gunivore.com/brands/smith-wesson-company-and-firearms-overview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Smith &amp; Wesson</a> and <a href="https://gunivore.com/brands/ruger-firearms-company-history-and-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ruger</a> alone manufacture over half a million units a year – around a quarter of their yearly handgun production, respectively. With more and more Americans opting to carry a concealed weapon, millions have elected to carry revolvers. When manufacturers keep releasing these new and improved firearms, featuring the renowned simplicity and reliability wheel guns are known for, it’s easy to see why folks are still falling in love with revolvers. These firearms just won’t die out – there seems to still be a group of stubborn shooters out there intent on using these traditional firearms for hunting, carrying, sporting, competition, and home defense. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In this week’s edition of&nbsp;<a href="https://gunivore.com/?s=Fast+Five&amp;submit=Search" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Gunivore&#8217;s Fast Five</a>, we are going to break down for you the best new revolvers in the industry. <h2>COLT COBRA</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">I was so excited to see Colt finally decided to rerelease their legendary <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Cobra" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">.38 Special Cobra Revolver</a>. When the classic weapons producer debuted the 2017 edition of their famed snub nose six-shooter, they threw in several game-changing mods to sweeten the deal. As a matter of fact, they barely resemble the original 1950 model at all. One of the biggest upgrades Colt gave the Cobra was a brand new set of ergonomic <a href="https://www.hogueinc.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Hogue grips</a> that do wonders for control and handling. To give their wheel gun even more intuitive handling, they added what they call the “Linear Leaf Spring” to guarantee smooth, crisp trigger pulls every time, culminating in a truly impressive performance. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you weren’t sold on its durability and user-friendliness, the Colt Cobra also features industry-leading versatility. In addition to its +P rating, the double-action revolver also has a fiber-optic front sight that can be switched out for your choice of sights, including tritium and night sights. </span></p>

<h2>S&amp;W MODEL 69 COMBAT</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Smith and Wesson has been producing some of the best revolvers in the market for over 150 years and the <a href="https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/model-69-combat-magnum" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Model 69 Combat</a> is just another in a line of fantastic firearms. This L-frame wheel gun was originally released with a 4.5” barrel but they’ve recently launched a compact 2.75” barrel edition at the behest of their committed fan base. Besides for lowering the gun’s overall weight, the 69 Compact Magnum is now one of Smith &amp; Wesson’s best CCWs. Like the aforementioned Colt, this S&amp;W offers decent versatility as a result of its ability to chamber both .44 Special and .44 Magnum rounds. </span></p>

<h2>RUGER GP100 &amp; REDHAWK</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Although I’ve never really been a huge fan of <a href="https://gunivore.com/brands/ruger-firearms-company-history-and-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ruger</a>, I can’t deny their tremendous influence on the firearms community. As one of the leading manufacturers of revolvers today, the iconic company proudly makes some of the best wheel guns in the industry. I specifically like their highly-accurate GP100, chambered in .357 Magnum. If you haven’t figured it out by now that I take versatility very seriously, then you’re missing the ball big time. Like the aforementioned wheel guns, the GP100 comes in a variety of sights, barrel sizes, grips, finishes, and now calibers. The Ruger is especially good for newcomers considering its supreme balance, ease-of-use, and solid customer-service. While some folks may not like its beefy build, the sensible GP100 makes up for it by being plenty rugged and accurate. &nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If the GP100 is Ruger’s answer to the evolving revolver market, then their <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_Redhawk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Redhawk</a> is the timeless classic redesigned. Originally developed in the 1980’s as a .44 Mag powerhouse, the big bore revolvers were designed for big game hunting. Although they were first conceived with massive 7.50” barrels, Ruger has recently redesigned the Redhawk with 2.75” barrel chambered in .357 Magnum. Plus, with an 8-shot capacity and heavy, bulky build, the Redhawk is not the most practical revolver in the world. Nevertheless, I must admit that it makes for a good hunting companion or home-defense weapon. For a hefty price, the hefty Ruger can be yours, capable of firing .357, .38 Special, and .38 +P loads. </span></p>

<h2>CHARTER ARMS BULLDOG</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Charter Arms is one of the best and underrated firearms manufacturers in the business and their Bulldog is one of the finest CCWs the market has to offer. At first glance, the lightweight, durably-built wheel gun may seem like your run-of-the-mill firearm, but it’s far from it. By ditching the traditional side plate and opting for a stronger single-pieced frame, the Bulldog is insanely strong, somehow manages to hover around 20 oz. Furthermore, Charter gave their trademark wheel gun safe and simplistic features while also providing solid handling and versatility. For these reasons and more, the <a href="https://charterfirearms.com/collections/bulldog" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Charter Arms Bulldog</a> is one of my picks for the best revolver of 2017. </span></p>

<h2>KIMBER K6S</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A lot of people may not have heard of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimber_Manufacturing" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kimber Manufacturing</a>, but they are one of the top producers of premium firearms in America. Although they are better known for their top-shelf 1911s, they also produce one of the best concealable revolvers money can buy. The small in size but big in performance <a href="https://www.kimberamerica.com/k6s/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kimber K6S</a> is surprisingly ergonomic and fun to shoot. To my amazement, the new stainless steel framed wheel gun is one of the industry’s lightest .357 Magnums. In fact, it may actually have the best factory double-action trigger of any small-framed revolver. All things considered, the K6S makes for a great CCW, especially since it packs such a powerful punch in such a small, lightweight frame. I’m also a big fan of the modern, hammerless design and wide array of available sights Kimber has to offer. </span></p>

<h2>BONUS: Chiappa Rhino</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://www.chiappafirearms.com/f.php?id=53" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Chiappa Rhino</a> is one of the most unique and innovative revolvers on the market, which will definitely turn off some traditional shooters. That being said, all of these changes aren’t for naught – the unconventional flat cylinder on the Rhino not only keeps it thin and concealable, but also the lower position (6 o’clock chamber rather than 12 o’clock) of the barrel significantly lowers the felt recoil. I don’t think the Chiappa is going to win any beauty contests, but the Italian firearm is definitely a top-notch, powerful, self-defense weapon. Although they currently manufacture an ultra-concealable 2” barrel variant, they are better known for their intimidating full-framed “Charging Rhino”. </span></p>
