G44 Rundown

I’ll start by saying that loading a Glock with .22 rounds was weird. The last three major debuts from Glock included the G19X, G17 & G19 upgrades, and the G48 and G43X. It’s safe to say that they have focused primarily on law enforcement- and military-friendly pistols in addition to their collection of tactical CCWs. However, the G44 was a step far out of their comfort zone, being a primarily civilian firearm not built for concealed carrying. Nevertheless, some argue that Glock created the G44 to be a training weapon for shooters before upgrading to the G19 or other 9mm Glock option. In that case, the G44 offers shooters the controls and feel of a regular Glock but with a cheaper and more manageable .22LR operation. I got my hands on one for a day of plinking and I wasn’t disappointed. I don’t particularly like Glocks but there wasn’t much to complain about here. 

Previous Glock shooters will have no trouble adjusting to the new Glock 44 since it follows the classic Glock design. Basic features include the standard Glock polymer frame and magazine, adjustable plastic sights, and striker-fired trigger. Like the other Gen 5 Glocks, you’ll notice there aren’t any finger grooves on the grip which may bother some but Glock seems to be sticking with that design. Likewise, they threw in a few modular rear grip straps to enhance the shooter’s control, plus an ambidextrous slide stop and a flared mag-well. 

Overall, it’s exactly like shooting a Gen 5 Glock 19 with the exception of the .22LR rimfire difference. In fact, the G44 even fits into most G19 holsters and mag pouches I could find. This was another key that they created this as a training pistol for their more “advanced” models. Nonetheless, I had a good time plinking with the .22, but I love shooting .22 so I’m easy to please in that regard. When I took a closer look at the G44 and the G19 there were a few things that stood out. For instance, the G44 weighed half as much as the G19, which probably has to do with the 9mm barrel. Furthermore, while the G44 was slightly skinnier, they shared the same length and height.

Magazines

While they do look quite similar, there were a few major differences between the G44 and G19 triggers. For instance, the G44 has these raised ridges on the backside of the mags, which can help in tactical situations I guess. Like many other .22LR mags, these were easy to load and easy on the fingers. However, I should mention that there were a few failures to load when I used dirty rounds but that can be expected. 

G44 Shooting

I wanted to use a variety of ammo to properly test the Glock 44’s shooting ability so I checked my stash of .22 and brought out Federal Champion 36-grain HP, Blazer 38-grain LRN, Remington Golden Bullet 40-grain high-velocity LRN, and some CCI Quiet 45-grain LRN. I started with targets 10 yards downrange and eventually made my way up to 50 yards. I should be clear that this is definitely not a competition pistol but it still does offer some great plinking. I don’t usually measure my groupings but I was curious how I shot with the G44 and was able to keep my 10-shot groups just below 2-inches at 20 yards. I should also note that I ran a few mags with a mix of ammo and had no problems so long as the ammo was clean. 

Conclusion

At the end of the day, the Glock 44 was a fun gun to shoot that I will never own. I don’t really love the way Glocks feel and shoot, plus there are far better .22LR pistols out there. I think the G44 is best suited for folks looking to train for using other Glocks, especially youth shooters. In fact, if there are young men and women out there who want to carry a G19, G17, or other Glock, this is a great buy. Start with this, get used to the feel of shooting and carrying, and see if Glock is right for you.

The shooting world is seemingly still overrun with 9mm, striker-fired, polymer-based, semi-automatic pistols. We have Gaston Glock to “blame” for that, I suppose? At any rate, there are many manufacturers who are interested in getting a slice of that polymer pie, and some are doing a pretty good job competing with Glock’s weapons. One of those companies is Česká Zbrojovka (CZ), which has a US-based subsidiary in Kansas – aptly named CZ-USA – and who is giving Glocks a real run for their money.

CZ P10 Series

The P10c was first in the line of several weapons carrying the P10 name. After the success of the P10c, CZ came out with the P10s (for subcompact) and the P10f (for full-size) in 2018. In a blatant (not to mention comedic) attempt to let people know precisely what they were up to with these guns, CZ-USA chose the tagline “Improving on Perfection” to go along with the release of the P10c. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

The concept behind these was pretty straightforward: CZ makes good weapons, and it was looking for a way to break into the synthetic-materials market. There was a previous attempt at this back in the mid-90s, when CZ introduced the CZ 100 (in 9mm and 40 S&W), and the CZ 110. However, due to low sales numbers, they were both discontinued around 2008.

Most often, a full-sized model of a weapon is released first, and is then followed by a compact and/or subcompact version. To their credit, CZ decided to go about it a different way, releasing the compact version first. This way, they let shooters know they were about now, and what it is they had in store for the future. It was kind of refreshing, in a way.

An optics-ready (OR) version of the P10 series is now available, spanking new for 2019. Machined mounting plates, option for co-witness, and the fact that the OR versions are made right here in the US – these all contribute to the likeability of these newer models. Another difference is that the mag release button has been improved on. A downside is that the mag release is no longer ambi, and that the interchangeability of magazines is not guaranteed.

Also available are the suppressor ready versions, which include a threaded barrel and higher night sights.

Build & Performance

Since the P10c was designed to compete head-on with the Glock 19, the build is pretty similar. It is polymer-based, glass fiber-reinforced, striker-fired, and it has a stainless steel slide. Designed in 2014, the company worked on it for a while, releasing it in 2017. As one poignant forum-writer put it: this thing took everything that was good about the Glock 19 and made it better.

That said, I personally do not feel there is something which makes the P10c a significantly better weapon than the Glock 19. Both of them feel right in your hand, both of them shoot well, both are fairly concealable – and when you are dealing with a compact firearm with the potential of being an EDC, that’s what you want. You want that natural feel, decent accuracy, high capacity, with the option of hiding it in plain sight.

I mean, the gun has some things which make it a little different (the deeper beavertail, the nitride finish, and several backstraps for adjustability), but overall they are very similar, from the look and feel right down to the takedown process.

Another noteworthy point is that there is a pretty good factory trigger on this gun. Crispy. The only thing I would change right from the beginning is the sights. I would black out the rear sights, and turn it into a one-dot. It seems that is what CZ did with the OR models, and that is a good idea.

It’s a great little shooter, very manageable recoil, solid grip, on point. I feel everything about this gun is as advertised, honestly, so good on CZ’s marketing department for playing a straight game. Better than Glock? I feel they are too similar for me to make the call. But it certainly seems to be on par, as far as functionality and performance are concerned.

CZ P10c For Sale

The MSRP for the P10c is $499. For that kind of price, which is reasonable for such a weapon, you get a lot of value. CZ are known for their quality firearms, and this one is no exception. The accuracy, the ease of use, the materials used – these are all contributing factors to the gun’s success both at the firing range and the checkout counter.

If it was not worth the price, people would not be buying it. That much is a given, I think. The consumer market is the one who eventually decides on whether or not there is any added value in a product, or whether or not the price of an item is justified. And it seems that the market’s decision is that it is well worth it.

Just take a quick look at the forums, shops, conferences, and conventions that are going on all around us. There is very little wrong with this series, from what people are saying. It does require something of a break-in period, though. Perhaps more than the Glock does.

The street price of the P10c can be about $420-$450, but prices vary. There isn’t much more you can ask from such a weapon, in my opinion. It does its job, it has some options of customizability, and there seem to be nearly no complaints about it (after the gun has been broken it, anyway).

The first-ever generation of almost any firearm tends to have some issues, and it is pleasantly surprising to find that many shooters have literally nothing bad to say about the P10c.

On the other hand, many of them state that there is nothing special about it, either. This is pretty much how I feel. If there was something inherently wrong with it, I think it would have come up by now.

The fact that it doesn’t “wow” me doesn’t really surprise me. I am honestly not expecting anything “wow”-worthy at that price. If you want WOW, you will have to shell out more money for something better, I think.

CZ P10c Availability

The P10c (along with its P10 brethren) is available at gun shops and online stores all over the place. When it first was introduced, people were waiting on pins and needles to get their hands on one. The hype was real, and shooters were excited to see what CZ could do.

Now that it has been a couple of years or so, the demand is still there, though it is probably not as high as it was at first. I don’t have precise numbers or sales stats to back this up, mind you, this is pure speculation and conjecture. If anyone out there does have some numbers, feel free to send them our way!

CZ P10c Vs Glock 19

And now we come to the obligatory head-to-head with the G19. As I said, there are differences, but overall there appears to be a greater amount of similarities. *Spoiler alert* – there is no clear winner.

As is almost always the case with firearms, and particularly those who you could potentially use as your EDC – it comes down to personal preference and nothing else. If the shoe fits, wear it.

Some are choosing to de-throne the G19, shout “The King is Dead!”, and crown the CZ P10c as its successor. Okay, fair enough. Ergonomics-wise, there is an advantage to the P10c, because of the increased customizability. On the other hand, there are many aftermarket products designed specifically for the Glock. Out of the box, CZ’s ergonomics does seem to be more on point.

Price-wise, they are nearly the same, with the Glock 19 Gen5 being the more expensive one at the moment, with a MSRP of $539. But price isn’t everything. Consider the fact that this is a Gen5 we’re talking about, which means that 4 previous generations have come and gone, adding a lot of input along the way. That translates into plenty of trial and error, customers’ opinions, tweets, and posts, PLUS feedback from many dealers and distributers – over 30 years’ worth, in fact!

As for size, the P10c is a tad larger in its build. And by a tad, I mean just that. It is still a compact 9mm, after all, so when I say it is larger I only mean comparatively. The differences in size are almost negligible, although for those of us who plan on carrying these guns IWB, these seemingly-minor differences can become more pronounced.

Bottom line: the Glock 19 is tried and true, whereas the CZ P10c is the newcomer which is only getting its polymer feet wet. The only way you will truly know if it is worth your hard-earned dollars is by shooting one for yourself. Alternatively, you can ask around and talk to people whose opinion you trust. Don’t let the internet brigades decide anything for you! Certainly not when discussing a potential EDC piece.

Conclusion

The P10c is a neat gun, available at a normal price, with some features which really allow it to compete with other similar handguns. It is manufactured in the Czech Republic, though some models are made in the US.

There is no question why so many people are comparing it to the Glock handguns. But the CZ P10c is not the only handgun in the running. There are several other companies out there who are manufacturing some serious competition for the Austrian brand. After many years pretty much dominating the market, some companies – like CZ – are taking another shot at breaking into the synthetic-material market. And it seems like they are going about it in the proper way.

As for long-term use, the CZ P10c has a one-year warranty on wooden parts and surface treatments, and a five-year warranty on other parts. However, it could very well be that the company takes good care of its clientele long after the warranty has officially expired. I’ve heard and read good things about their customer service.

If you are in the market for a compact 9mm pistol, there is no reason not to take a look at CZ’s P10c. It is one of the best and most viable options out there for the ordinary everyday shooter and carrier. Fair price, nice quality, great value.

2018 saw the rise of the Sig Sauer P320 but don’t overlook the remarkably impressive P365. The up-and-coming polymer pocket pistol is slowly garnering a tremendous following and for good reason. In general, I’m always skeptical of Sig Sauer, primarily for their price and tendency to experience problems. Nevertheless, the success of the P320 (even with its issues) gave me the confidence to trust the new Sig. They may be small but their impact is big and I expect these micro pistols to thrive on the market. Sit tight and get ready because we’re going to take a closer look at the Sig P365 to see what all the hype is about.

Sig P365 Review

Folks in the firearm industry are keeping a close eye on the Sig P365 because it shows tremendous promise for becoming the next big polymer pocket pistol. For starters, the compact handgun might just be the next huge release in the CCW market. In addition to its 1” width, 4.3” height, and 5.8” length, the Sig is also surprisingly affordable and user-friendly.

Similarly, the pistol’s build was carefully crafted to blend affordability, ergonomics, durability, and ease of use. Likewise, it’s refreshing to see such an archetypal construct slightly tweaked to allow for incredible versatility. Besides for a variety of sight and magazine setups, the 365 is +P rated and designed to handle a wide range of uses.
While it’s reminiscent of the Glock G26 and M&P Shield, the 9mm Sig offers shooters a low-profile and well-fitting handgun option worthy of carrying. In the same vein, there was no part of the gun that felt cheap, which is no small feat for striker fired polymer pistols.

I didn’t have much range time with the P365 but I can safely say that I punished a steel target with SIG 115-grain FMJs without any issues. The recoil felt pretty standard for a 9mm hybrid pistol but I definitely noticed the trigger. In addition to a short reset and clean pull, the metal trigger was intuitive, consistent, and comfortable each and every shot.

Sig P365 Accessories

The most common aftermarket accessories for the Sig P365 are magazines, including 10+1, 11+1, and 12+1 options. Additionally, many folks opt for a sweet holster set up since the P365 is such a good CCW option. However, Sig recently launched two trigger guard accessories to deck out their new pistol. P365 owners can now attach a rail mounted flashlight or laser sight to their already impressive firearm. While they are somewhat pricey, these Sig Sauer accessories are pretty sweet and a great a way to take your pistol to the next level.

Since the Sig P365 is a great CCW it’s no wonder why some of the best holster manufacturers are coming out with models for the popular handgun. For starters, AlienGear is always a solid option and their Cloak Mod certainly won’t disappoint. However, you also can’t go wrong with a minimalist Black Point Tactical IWB Kydex holster.

Sig P365 For Sale

The Sig Sauer P365 is available at your local gun shop and most online firearm retailers. In addition to the industry standards like Cabela’s and Bass Pro Shop, it’s also available on Academy.com, Midway, and the Sportsman’s Warehouse. Sig markets the 365 for $599.99 but most retailers offer it for closer to $500. At the end of the day, that’s a pretty great bargain, especially for a Sig.

Sig P365 Problems

People like to spread rumors about Sig Sauer and their problems but the P365 seems to be flawless, as of now. Nevertheless, there is still talk about issues with the 365 though it seems unsubstantiated. Truth be told, the Sig Sauer P365 is a remarkable firearm that won’t disappoint.

Conclusion

The Sig 365 is not your standard Sig Sauer and that’s a good thing. The affordable CCW is accurate, ergonomic, user-friendly, and a true pleasure to own. I was impressed by the compact polymer pistol and I think you will be too.

The G48 and G43x are the beginning of a new line of Glock single stack pistols under the SlimLine Series. If you are thinking “But Glock already has a single stack subcompact”, you’re right. But that’s never really stopped anyone in the industry from pumping out new products. So let’s get to business and take a closer look at the new Glock pistols.

Glock 48 and Glock 43x Specs

New Glock Designs

Glock has a history of making reliable handguns without any fancy bells or whistles. Over the years, they have taken their tried-and-true platform and expanded it to over 50 different models, always delivering a safe and reliable product that is simple to operate. The G48 and G43x are certainly not exceptions to this commitment to quality firearms. Expanding on their already extensive collection and variety of 9mm handguns, Glock now gives you the option of a slimmer single stack compact and subcompact better suited for daily carry. In comparison, the Glock 19 has a width of 1.26” while the G48 and G43x measure in at just 1.10” wide.

It’s important to note that previous single stacked 9mm mags used in the G43 do not fit in the new G48 and G43x. These new pistols have identical full-size grips, though the G48 has a slightly longer barrel then the G43x. Although Glocks are already popular among CCW owners, the powerhouse gunmaker wanted to up the ante.

If you live in a state with a 10-round magazine capacity limit and you still want a full frame grip, the G48 or G43x may be your best Glock options. I think these new models offer more instead of putting a 10 round mag into a Glock 19 or Glock 17. In addition to their redesigned frame and mags, the G48 and G43x also threw in the SlimLine standard reversible mag release, short trigger distance, and a built-in beavertail. Furthermore, these new models will be offered in three sight configurations, including the always popular Glock Night Sights. I also liked the new aesthetic approach of the G48 and G43x with their two-toned finishes (the silver nPVD finish is a nice touch). Besides for these few alterations, everything else is standard to the Glock brand.

Glock 43 vs Glock 43x

The G43 is slightly smaller than the G43x in height, width, and (loaded and unloaded) weight. However, they are nearly identical in barrel and slide length. In fact, the G43 barrel is just half a millimeter shorter than the G43x barrel. As an added bonus, the G43x is capable of holding 4 more rounds than the G43, which is good news for people who carry. Keep in mind that the G43x is seemingly meant to be a slimmer version of the G48, not to compete with the original G43. Many even argue that the G43 is still a more concealable weapon than either the G48 or G43x. If the G43 grip is too short for you, but you still want a slimmer profile for concealed carry, the G43x is certainly a viable option.

Glock 48 vs Glock 43x

Many people are wondering why Glock would release two single stack 9mm pistols at once, especially when they are so similar. Nevertheless, it’s their subtle differences which drive shooters to one model versus the other. You’ll notice that their lower receivers are identical while their most obvious difference is in their slides. The G48 has a .76” longer barrel and a .79” longer slide compared to the G43x. With that slightly longer slide comes a little bit more weight, with the G48 weighing in a staggering 2.08 oz heavier than the G43x. Other than this small difference on the front end, these two Glocks are basically the same.

Glock 48 Price

There is a ton of debate within the gun community about Glocks, especially when it comes to their overall value. In the case of the G48, I think the price is pretty reasonable being that it’s under $500. It’s worth mentioning that the G48 will be more widely available than some of their other models since the new mag only holds 10 rounds and is less restricted by state gun laws. In other words, you can expect to see a bunch of these in the Left-run states like California, New York, and New Jersey.

Glock 43x Price

The G43x is on par with other Glocks in that it’s reasonably priced for what you are getting. It’ll run you around $450, which isn’t so bad for a quality handgun with a reputation to back it. Like the other new model, it will be available and popular in all states since it doesn’t violate any state legislation on capacity restrictions.

Conclusion

The G48 and G43x are new additions to the growing family of Glock products. There is sure to be plenty of haters out there, especially considering the fact there is no need for more 9mm single stack pistols. Nevertheless, they are thinner than the G19 and any double stacked Glocks on the market today. However, they are NOT thinner than the G43, which is somewhat strange to me. To be honest, I’m left thinking, wow great another variant of Glock that no one asked for that doesn’t really do anything great. A jack of a few trades and a master of none, the new G48 and G43 are really only helpful if you live in a liberal state with magazine capacity limits.

Although Heckler and Koch is better-known for their incredible collection of military weapons, such as the MP5, the German arms company also produces several top-shelf civilian firearms. While H&K originally designed this lineup of polymer-framed pistols in 2006, the P30 series underwent several major overhauls until its culmination with the P30SK.

Even though these semi-autos are popular in the civilian market, the P30SK has also found itself in the hands of several European law enforcement agencies. In fact, in addition to its common use as a concealed carry weapon, many militaries, law enforcement, and security personnel rely on these German handguns as their backup weapon. HK P30SK Specs

P30SK Build

As the most recent addition to the P30 Series of HK semi-automatic handguns, the P30SK is loaded with tons of modern, updated features. While there are many standouts on the HK’s build, its ergonomic grip system is arguably the best. In order to achieve the ultimate shooting experience, the German gunmaker outfitted these CCWs with a multitude of interchangeable lateral grip panels and backstraps.

As a result, shooters are afforded a custom-feel on their P30SK that ultimately does wonders for accuracy and ease of carrying. In another attempt at boosting its user-friendliness, HK provided these handguns with simple, tool-less fieldstripping. Similarly, they also incorporated a dual ambidextrous slide and magazine release.

The next feature users tend to notice is the abbreviated, MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail forward of the P30SK’s trigger guard. Whether or not you choose to utilize the rail, it’s always nice having the option and later on, we’ll be discussing some of its most popular attachments.

One of my favorite features on these Heckler & Koch’s is also one of the most underrated. While people often overlook a handgun’s slides, the German gunmaker niftily added anti-slip slide serrations on both ends of the P30SK. Furthermore, to make these polymer pistols even more user-friendly, HK went with the V3 Double-Action/Single-Action trigger.

Consequently, they integrated a spurred hammer and decocking lever but did wonders to ensure that it won’t negatively affect its carrying ability. Although this is the most common setup, they also offer CDA/DA and CDA trigger system as well.

Lastly, the German firearms manufacturer made several efforts to enhance the P30SK’s durability, especially regarding its barrel. Specifically, H&K crafted their polygonal barrels with cold-hammer forging to ensure its resiliency and overall dependability. Nevertheless, much of the gun’s sturdiness stems from its nitro-carburized steel barrels and use of high-quality polymers.

Likewise, HK gave nearly all the metal components of the P30SK their Hostile Environment (HE) finish. This efficient, chloride-resistant black oxide coating is remarkably useful in protecting the P30SK against corrosion and wear. The best part of it all is that in addition to all this protection, the German masterpiece is also quite attractive and intimidating.

P30SK Safety & Sight Systems

While the P30SK is surprisingly versatile, its ideal use as a CCW led HK to incorporate several safety features. For starters, the German gunmaker opted for the reliable automatic hammer and firing pin safety.

Additionally, H&K went with an ambidextrous external safety lever and a standard loaded chamber indicator to keep the P30SK’s safeties as intuitive as possible. Lastly, they also integrated a decocking latch on some of the models as an added safety feature.

Heckler and Koch outfitted the P30SK with high-performance luminescent (non-radioactive) sights standard but there are a few other available options. Besides for these self-illuminating open post 3-dot sights HK also offers their popular firearm with Tritium night sights.

P30SK Magazines

While HK provides each P30SK owner with two or three 10-round box mags, depending on the configuration, shooters can also opt for extended 15-round (9mm) or 13-round magazines (.40 S&W). Additionally, some models contain an empty mag indicator which acts as a brightly colored magazine follower.

Performance & Shooting of the P30SK

If the spec sheet or list of premium features didn’t give it away already, let me make it clear that the HK P30SK is one hell of a firearm. In addition to the custom-feel provided by the modular grip system, the semi-auto is all-around comfortable and intuitive. As a matter of fact, with over two dozen possible grip configurations, it’s easier than ever to get the perfect handle on your pistol.

Furthermore, HK also offered the P30SK with a few trigger options, all of which are tremendously reliable and crisp. In fact, it was the 4.5 lb. DA/SA trigger that convinced me that they did not overprice their handgun. Additionally, the German pistol offers top-shelf accuracy thanks to their advanced barrel technology and natural point and shoot ability. I used to think that pistol sights can’t make such a noticeable difference in performance, but the HK P30 proves that it can indeed.

P30SK Holsters

A top-shelf handgun like this requires a top-shelf holster and there are plenty of great options out there to choose from. For starters, you can’t go wrong with the reliable and affordable Alien Gear and their Cloak Tuck 3.0 IWB Holster.

After a couple of days to break in the leather, these end up becoming one of the most comfortable IWB holsters on the market. For the folks who are looking for something a little bit more traditional, the Comp-Tac Infidel Ultra Max IWB holster is also a great CCW choice. Lastly, you can never go wrong with a Fobus, so check out their Passive Retention holster that offers nearly a dozen mounting options.

HK Aftermarket Options

Because the HK P30SK is already such an impressive weapon it seems totally unnecessary to add any attachments. That being said, for those who insist on utilizing the Picatinny accessory rail, your best option is the Crimson Trace Master Pro Universal Laser Sight & Tactical Light. Although pretty pricey, this tactical masterpiece is arguably one of the best sight accessories in the industry, plus it’s said to fit over 200 handguns, making it one of the most versatile around.

P30SK Vs. Glock 26

A lot of folks try to compare the P30SK to the popular Glock 26 but the comparison is a bit far-fetched. These two polymer pistols are quite similar in size, in fact, the Glock might even have the advantage in terms of its concealability. At the end of the day, there’s a reason the H&K is so much more expensive. By offering significantly better accuracy, ergonomics, control, and reliability, the HK is clearly the superior firearm.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, it’s hard to beat the H&K P30SK. With the intuitive ambidextrous controls, modular grip system, and insanely durable design and finish, this semi-auto sets the bar really high for the competition. Now that the German gunmaker has achieved such a high standard, I’m looking forward to seeing what H&K will come out with next.

I’ve recently been on a journey with Walther Arms, going through their impressive collection of firearms to see if they actually live up to their remarkable reputation. After a less than extraordinary experience with the PPK, I had a blast shooting the PPQ and PPS, so I was excited to finally get my hands on their most recent development, the 9mm Creed. The German firearms producer is known for manufacturing some of the best products in the handgun industry, so my expectations were high, but the Creed’s surprising price-tag kept me on my toes.

Walther utilized their decades of expertise and modern, cost-cutting engineering techniques to keep their newest CCW affordable, at a modest $399. Furthermore, they chambered the new carry pistol in the most affordable centerfire defensive caliber around, 9mm. So let’s get down to business – This is the Gunivore rundown of the popular Walther Creed!

Walther Creed Build

From top to bottom, Walther’s newest double-action-only pistol screams modern innovation. Nevertheless, the iconic German weapons manufacturer opted for a hammer-fired design as opposed to the more common striker-fired. Though, to keep it as concealable as possible, they stuck the hammer almost entirely under the rear of the slide, practically eliminating any potential snags. While it’s definitely not the smallest Walther carry pistol, it is still worthy of your consideration.  

After spending some quality time with several of the handguns in Walther’s catalog, I got the impression that the Creed was a Frankenstein pistol of sorts, combining some of the most popular features from their entire array of firearms. Like most of Walther’s new CCWs, the Creed was given non-slip, cross-directional grips that are right above average; but where the grip surface lacks, the grip size and angle pick up the slack.

Also, while nothing extraordinary, their 3-dot low-profile sight systems are more than satisfactory, plus they are adjustable for windage. On an aside, I’m not sure why Walther chose to go with metal sights compared to the polymer sight systems on some of their other guns, like the PPQ 45 – I guess that’s just another way they were able to keep it a price point pistol.  

I’ve learned to pay close attention to Walther’s slides, and I found the Creed’s to be way above average. While the new DAO pistol has front and rear cocking serrations on its non-slip surface, they do more for user-friendliness than any other Walther on the market. Additionally, besides for sticking with their popular extended slide stop lever, they also went with an American-style ambidextrous magazine release (thank God!).

Lastly, we have two features which Walther fans love to brag about. In addition to keeping with their reliable and easy to manage 3-safeties (two drop, one firing pin block), the German firearms company succeeded in making an even more impressive trigger (see their P22). To take their renowned trigger technology a step further, Walther relied on a pre-cocked double-action-only trigger to run the Creed’s hammer, ultimately providing a smooth as silk pull. In fact, it’s almost unheard of to find such a crisp trigger on an economic firearm, but the Creed’s pull is equally smooth and consistent from shot to shot.

If the Creed’s price-tag causes you to doubt its overall quality or durability, the countless pleased customers say otherwise. In addition to its reinforced polymer frame, the Creed was given a resilient, corrosion-resistant, Tenifer-coated matte finish, so rest assured.      

Walther Creed Performance

Before I get into the details of the Walther Creed’s performance, I should let you know that I was using a used model, so I can’t address its need to be broken in. My buddy supplied the Creed and I supplied the Remington HTP 115 grain JHP rounds. Designed as an economic defensive carry pistol, Walther’s newest innovation is hard to believe. Not only did they give it an incredible trigger, user-friendly controls (including its slide), and an intuitive design, the Creed is also no slouch when it comes to accuracy. Although it is a bit recoil-sensitive to heavy high-pressure ammo, it’s got decent control even with rapid-firing.

Walther Creed Magazines

Believe it or not, but the magazine/capacity of the Walther Creed is actually one of its most outstanding features. With the help of remarkable German engineering, the Creed manages to chamber a 16-round mag in 1.3” wide & 5.6” high frame. Just think about that – It comes out that the new Creed is one of the best CCW options in its class, at least on paper. With a concealable, lightweight build, sixteen 9mm rounds, an excellent trigger, and the Walther reliable reputation, I can’t see what’s not to like. As an added bonus, Walther enabled the Creed to hold PPX magazines, so spare mags should be easy to come by. Lastly, if you take a closer look, you’ll see that Walther trimmed the grip’s baseplate which gives the semi-auto surprisingly comfortable handling. Overall, it was really nice to see them manufacture an economic firearm without cutting any corners.

Walther Creed Accessories

I was trying to figure out how exactly they managed to get the Creed down to under $400 when it didn’t really seem like anything was missing. At the end of the day, the only clear feature Walther excluded was interchangeable backstraps, which isn’t such a big deal, all things considered. Plus, with the addition of a Picatinny rail, they still offer plenty of aftermarket accessory options. If you’re the kinda shooter who likes a laser sight, then you can’t really go wrong with a LaserLyte, and in this case, I’d recommend hooking up the straightforward Gun Sight Trainer Universal Rail Mount ($110).

Conclusion

All things considered, while the Creed won’t be winning any competitions, it is still an exceptional choice for an affordable concealed carry weapon. I remember how much hype there was at SHOT Show about Walther’s new concoction, and the legendary company did not disappoint. In giving the Creed top-shelf features without charging a top-shelf price, don’t be surprised to see more and more of these around in the coming years – Pick yours up today at your local Walther dealer.

I want to start off by making a bold statement: The Walther P99c AS is better than any compact semi-auto Glock has to offer, be it the 26, 27, 33, or 42. Like its brothers in Walther’s impressive collection of polymer pistols, the P99 features only the best components paired with state-of-the-art technology. After going through Walther’s catalog and getting my hands on some of their most popular weapons, I thought I had seen it all, but then I was introduced to the newest P99. It had been years since I fired a P99 so I was pretty excited to give the newest model a try.

Walther P99 AS

Like most other Walthers, the P99c AS is surprisingly ergonomic considering its diminutive build. Furthermore, as a premium CCW, the 9mm semi-auto is loaded with exceptional features that parallel some of the best in the industry. In my time spent with Walther’s handguns, I’ve found that they feature outstanding slides, something which many other CCWs lack.

Starting with the P99’s 3-dot polymer sight system, the German arms producer gave their popular pistol windage-adjustable low-profile sights to boost its overall accuracy and concealability, respectively. Unlike many of their newer CCWs, Walther kept the integrated Picatinny rail forward of the trigger guard, parallel to the front sight. Moving to the rear, the P99 includes a nifty little manual decocker, a feature relatively uncommon for Walthers.

Additionally, I was thrilled to see that they kept the extended slide stop which conveniently locks back after emptying a mag. That being said, the only downside to the P99c AS’ slide was that it only contains slide serrations on the rear, but that’s no legitimate deal breaker. Lastly, don’t forget that like many other Walther pistols, these guys come with three safeties and Tenifer-coated slides/barrels for increased durability.

The trickiest part of the gun to discuss is the area by the trigger. On one hand, the P99c AS’ DA/SA trigger is one of the best I’ve ever seen, but on the other hand, Walther kept with the frustrating European-style paddle magazine release. While it is ambidextrous and extended for easy operation, it just doesn’t feel right to me.

But like the aforementioned slide serrations, this too is no real deterrent. Going back to the fantastic anti-stress trigger, be warned that it might take some time getting used to the 9 lb. DA trigger pull and the 4.5 lb. SA, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll love it.

Next, we have the ergonomic Walther grips which give the P99c its superior handling. Although any handgun needs a good set of grips, it’s even more crucial for a powerful compact CCW. Nevertheless, I highly recommend opting for the extended mag because its added pinky rest will make a huge difference in your control of the firearm.

Walther P99 Performance

There’s not really much to talk about with the P99c AS’ performance – This impressive CCW is simply put: the epitome of German engineering combined with outstanding handling, intuitive controls, and remarkable accuracy. It carries lightly and pulls even easier, making it a more than capable option for concealed carrying. Furthermore, Walther pistols are among the most reliable in their class, plus they’re pretty sexy too.

Walther P99 Magazine

Because the P99c AS functions like a PPS M2 but in a double-stack design, opting for the former just means more bullets for you! Although Walther only offers P99c magazines in one capacity, they do have a standard model as well as one with an ergonomic rest.

Walther P99 Accessories

Once again we have a CCW with an integrated rail, and I can’t see what the point is. This gun was designed to be carried and using attachments will only ruin that. Nonetheless, if you find yourself looking to hook up a laser sight, you can’t go wrong with the LaserMax Genesis Micro LMS-Micro.

Walther P99 Holster

More importantly, you have to find yourself a reliable holster that is also comfortable; fortunately, some of the biggest names in the industry got you covered. Although I originally would have gone for the affordable FOBUS Standard Passive Retention Holster ($33), I’ve recently been liking Crossbreed – Check out the up-and-coming company’s Ohai Modular Holster with optional magazine carrier ($50).

Comparable Firearms

It wasn’t too long ago that one of my favorite American gunmakers teamed up with the legendary German company to produce an American-style variant of the famous P99. Less than 20 years ago, Smith and Wesson joined forces with Walther Arms to market the SW99 to the United States, and it soon gained a big following. Although these guns may be distinct, they share many of the same components and designs, plus their mags are easily interchangeable.

Nevertheless, it’s these minute differences which have drawn many P99 fans over to the SW99, especially its .45 caliber availability. However, I’ve been puzzled for years trying to figure out some of S&W’s additions – like what they did with the trigger & trigger guard and grip shape. Overall, the original, German-made P99 has way better ergonomics which trump the SW99’s high-powered abilities.

If you haven’t heard of Sig Sauer’s P320 yet then I don’t know where you’ve been for the last year. As one of the best-selling guns in America, the new and improved Sig pistol is sweeping the nation thanks to its incredible versatility, durability, and accuracy. In fact, it was just this January that the P320 won the long-awaited and highly-anticipated U.S. Military Handgun Competition. In order to win the XM17 Modular Handgun System Competition (MHS), Sig had to beat out some of the toughest competitors the entire arms market has to offer. Besides for beating out the reigning six-decade defending champion Beretta M9, they also had to overcome frontrunners such as the FN FNS Compact, Smith & Wesson M&P, and the predicted-favorite Glock 17.

Eventually, on the 19th of January, 2017, the American Military announced that Sig Sauer Inc. was the winner of the highly sought after $500+ million government contract. To top it all off, each of the different branches of the military would be receiving Sig ammunition, parts, and services for the foreseeable future. Besides for boosting their company’s worth through the roof and earning bragging rights, Sig Sauer was able to walk away from the competition with the pride of supplying our nation’s troops. Knowing this, it should come to no surprise to find out that the P320 was awarded the prestigious (NRA) American Rifleman’s Handgun of the Year in 2016.

Sig Sauer may have started ages ago as a small-time wagon wheel producer, but fast forward around 150 years and you’ll see one of the most impressive arms developers in the industry. In today’s Gunivore breakdown, we’re going to examine the P320 from the inside out to see how the P320 has managed to establish itself in modern firearm glory.

Sig Sauer P320 Build & Design

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the P320, we already know that in order to win the MHS, Sig Sauer had to create a handgun that would be more effective, accurate, and reliable than the iconic Beretta M9. In short, Sig was compelled to build the next world’s best pistol. Additionally, one of the many requirements imposed by the military was that the new service sidearm had to be as resilient as it was versatile. So in designing one of the most durable firearms on the market, Sig Sauer had to make their new weapon adaptable with multiple magazine and grip options. Oh, and not to mention that it also had to feature a non-reflective neutral finish, an integrated rail system, and be suppressor-friendly.

Therefore, Sig’s team of brilliant engineers had their work cut out for them and they certainly delivered! In addition to the major modular adaptations, they also made several nuanced adjustments that seamlessly coalesced to propel the P320 into a whole new level of firearm. The innovation of the P320 begins with its frame, well the fire-control unit more accurately. What I mean is that while most firearms are meaningless without their frames, the critically-acclaimed Sig utilizes its frame more like a shell than anything else.  Practically speaking, the P320’s frame is just a placeholder for the removable fire-control unit, which ultimately gives it its tremendous adaptability. This straightforward metal chassis holds the trigger, ejector, and striker and functions like the heart of the weapon. As a result of this distinctive design, shooters can easily swap grips, calibers (.357, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP), and even the slides on their P320. Besides for the obvious benefits of this, P320-owners can now replace their frame for no more than $50.

As one of the most adaptable and user-friendly handguns on the market, there’s just so much to love and talk about. I was pleased to see how simple the P320’s takedown was – Besides for not requiring any tools, the three-point takedown safety system prevents the pistol from being field-stripped without first removing the mag and cocking the slide back.

One of the most noticeable upgrades to the award-winning Sig was the addition of a polymer frame, something which they have generally avoided. The obvious benefit to utilizing polymers is that it effectively dropped weight without having to sacrifice any durability or control. As a matter of fact, the modern polymers can actually handle harsher environments and abuse better than the conventional steel builds.

Sig Sauer P320’s Performance

In their attempt at mastering the modular, polymer-framed pistol, Sig Sauer used their P250 model and transformed it, maximizing its aesthetics and abilities.  To even be considered a contender for the MHS, the P320 had to be ambidextrous-friendly and able to hit a 4” target at 50 meters consistently. Considering that it passed these rigorous military tests with flying colors, I don’t think there should be any doubts about the 320’s accuracy or overall operation.

In order to achieve their peak performance, Sig’s team added a grip weight that works wonders for the gun’s balance and overall feel. The comfortable handling of the P320 is only surpassed by its natural pointing and intuitive trigger. While not everyone will love the crisp 6.25 lb. trigger pull, Sig designed it to be the perfect balance for safe carrying and fast shooting.

P320 Magazines

Because the rest of the P320 is so extraordinary, it’s easy to overlook something like their mags. Besides for incorporating a convenient, detachable mag well, Sig’s magazines are as reliable and durable as they come. The cherry on top of it all is that the P320 can handle just about any ammo you can load it with.

Sig P320 Accessories & Aftermarket Options

This part is tough for me because while Sig Sauer gave the 320 an integrated M1913 accessory rail, the semi-auto is already so freaking brilliant by itself. Furthermore, since many P320 owners opt to carry their gun, most don’t end up utilizing the rail. Nevertheless, there’s a nearly infinite amount of aftermarket options to consider. Considering that many shooters will opt for either a tactical light, laser sight, or a combination laser/light, I highly recommend checking out the Crimson Trace CMR-206 Rail Master Universal – This is one of the best and highly-rated affordable pistol accessories on the market ($120) that’ll take your performance to a whole new level.

Without getting too technical, Sig redesigned their sight system to enable ‘quick’ sight swaps, but most shooters generally stick with the factory-installed option. They do a lot of promoting for the ROMEO1 open reflex sight, but I’ve heard mix feelings about it – you’re either gonna love this optic or hate it with a passion, so make sure you can test one out before ordering one online. Additionally, Sig Sauer also markets their more-impressive SIGLITE Night Sights and Contrast Sights which are huge fan-favorites.

I’m not sure why, but there seems to be a bit of a shortage of holster options for the P320 with the exception of Sig-made models. That being said, there is a decent variety within their online catalog in a solid range of materials and prices. Many P320 fans praise Sig for marketing actually affordable holsters, like the LVL1 ($9), Concealment Holster P320 Carry & Compact Blade-Tech, IWB, OWB ($19 sale price), and the Leather Pancake Holster ($25). On the other hand, they also offer IWB and OWB premium options such as my favorite, the P320c OWB Tactical Holster from Black Point Tactical ($90).

P320 Problems

Just because the P320 won one of the world’s toughest firearm competitions doesn’t mean that it is exempt from having issues. As a matter of fact, there were dozens of reports of accidental discharges upon dropping the gun which is 100% not okay. In order to save their pistol from the abyss Sig had to act fast and they did just that. In addition to developing a number of necessary modifications, the award-winning company offered a free voluntary upgrade to all P320 owners.

Besides for this major neglect, Sig still had yet more adversity to overcome. Even after winning the MHS, Glock protested the outcome with the claim that the military failed to test the firearms thoroughly enough. More precisely, the top-selling manufacturer maintained that the MHS didn’t properly assess the respective guns’ long-term endurance. Nevertheless, an Army spokesperson reaffirmed the original decision and emphasized that they would not be taking Glock’s complaints any further.

Conclusion

All things considered, the Sig Sauer P320 is probably the best sub-$700 handgun on the market. What’s not to love about these remarkable pistols –They are insanely accurate, durable, ergonomic, and feature the most revolutionary components and technology in the industry. In general, I think it’s safe to say that if it’s good enough for the U.S. Military then it’s good enough for me.

A buddy of mine recently asked me to recommend him an affordable starter pistol that would be user-friendly, accurate, and safe. He just reached the legal age to carry but was still relatively new to guns, so he wanted something simple and inexpensive to experiment with. While I’m a big fan of the Taurus 709, Kahr CW9, and the Ruger LC9, I suggested that he try out the Hi-Point C9. Like me, he wanted an American-made firearm, so I figured that the C9 would be a good fit.

Fast forward six months and he couldn’t be happier with my recommendation. He was impressed with its surprisingly simple design and flawless performance. Realizing how underrated this semi-auto really is, I decided that it’s time that we uncover the truth. So let’s get to it – this is the Gunivore breakdown of the Hi-Point C9.

C9 Pistol Build

Hi-Points are infamous for being ugly, but I think you’ll that a lot has changed for the underrated firearms company. Granted that the extended mag C9 looks a little funky, the standard model looks just fine. Is it as sexy as the Beretta PX4 Storm or the SIG Sauer P226? No -But in terms of all of its other specs, the Hi-Point C9 is a very respectable performer.

The first thing you’ll notice when you pick up this single-stack pistol is its surprisingly heavy build. While this may be a turn off for some folks, this weight isn’t for naught. To keep their weapons simple and inexpensive, Hi-Point employs the traditional blowback design and forgoes the more common breech-locking system. Instead, these semi-autos rely on their heavy slides to keep the breech closed. In the end, while they may be heavier and less attractive, they are also easier to field strip and are arguably more reliable thanks to this key simplification.

In another attempt to increase their durability without increasing their price, Hi-Points feature slides cast from a zinc-alloy instead of machined from forged steel. This alloy combines several strong metals which also help prevent corrosion on the firearm. Additionally, the C9 is constructed with sweet lightweight high-impact polymer frames and grips. To even further its durability, Hi-Point integrated steel reinforcing inserts into these components. After just one glance at its design and you’ll see that its easy-grip finish and unique shape provide great ergonomics.
As I mentioned, safety is a major priority to Hi-Point and the C9 has some really great safety features. In addition to its on/off thumb safety, the semi-auto pistol also contains a magazine disconnect safety and ships with a free trigger lock.

Although this may be a budget firearm, its components certainly don’t indicate as much. Hi-Point handguns come pre-equipped with a 3-dot, fully adjustable sight system and even includes an extra rear peep sight too.

Despite the fact that the C9 is a little heavier than desired, its 6.75” overall length and easy pull make it an excellent choice for concealed carry.

Overall, the 100% American parts and assembly give the C9 an astounding level of reliability, safety, and durability.

Hi-Point’s C9 Pistol Performance

While the C9’s build doesn’t indicate that it should be as cheap as it is, it’s time that we evaluate its performance and see if it shoots as well as expected. Most budget guns are finicky when it comes to their cartridges, but I can assure you that the C9 can handle just about all factory grade ammo and is even +P rated.

In terms of ergonomics, these pistols feel great in the hands, thanks in part to their unique design and comfortable high-impact grips. Furthermore, this DAO blowback gun is surprisingly easy to control, especially considering its powerful 9mm punch. As we mentioned earlier, the Hi-Points are non-traditional in the sense that they don’t utilize the locked-breech design, but this won’t noticeably impact the C9’s performance. To compensate, the C9 has a heavy slide to hold the breech and boost safety and control. In point of fact, this added mass definitely contributes to the C9’s unexpectedly manageable recoil.

I found the C9’s point and shoot ability to be about average, which is a good sign. The 3-dot, rear-adjustable sight system offers quick target acquisition and its decent trigger allows for reasonably fast shooting. If I could change anything though, it would be the trigger. With a heavy 8 lb. break and fairly crisp release, I’d like to see Hi-Point upgrade this component on their next model. However, one of the best attributes of this gun is that the slide locks open after firing the last round. I don’t have to tell you how annoying it can be to keep pulling the trigger and looking foolish when you’ve already run through the mag five pulls ago.

You’d think that with such affordable firearms, you’d see occasional stovepiping or other malfunctions, but my buddy told me that he’s yet to see anything like that in over 700 rounds fired. I’d say that’s pretty reliable!

C9 Magazines

The American-made magazines produced by Hi-Point are nothing special. Since most of their pistols ship with only one mag, I recommend picking up an extra online – they don’t usually run for more than $20. However, if you don’t think the C9’s 8+1 capacity is enough for you, Hi-Point also offers an extended 10-round magazine. But be warned, the added size of this mag does make the gun look a little weird.

Notorious Problems of Hi-Point and the C9

Hi-Point’s firearms are notorious for being unattractive- but as I said before, I don’t think that’s completely true or even important. Furthermore, they’ve also received a decent

amount of controversy for being commonly used by criminals. Once again, who the hell cares?

More importantly, Hi-Points run a little heavy, but over the past few years, they’ve managed to shed some of that unwanted weight. For instance, whereas the C9 used to weigh 29 oz. unloaded, they’ve got their 9mm to weigh that when fully loaded. Although this may seem like a small accomplishment, with guns this small, every ounce counts.

Another major criticism of these semi-autos is that they don’t feature a firing pin block safety mechanism. This “less safe” design has led many people to believe that Hi-Points are not safe to carry Condition One (cocked and locked). While I believe this to be a legitimate concern, I think that these guns are still great CCWs, but I’d only recommend experienced shooters to carry them.

C9 Comp Variant

Hi-Point recently debuted a variant C9 called the C9 Comp (compensated) and it’s something worth checking out. While noticeably larger than the standard model, the variant stands out more due to its specially designed compensator attached to the end of its barrel. One of the biggest advantages to this added component is that it significantly reduces recoil and muzzle rise.

Even more, Hi-Point hooked up this compensator with a rail for users to attach all kinds of accessories like flashlights and lasers.

C9 Aftermarket Options and Accessories

While the standard Hi-Point C9 doesn’t have many aftermarket options, there are a few additional sights available. I highly recommend trying out their ghost ring sights and to stay away from the peep sight (both included with purchase). Additionally, Hi-Point is known for producing a massive array of customized grips. With their very affordable price tag, I think it’s worth the extra few bucks to give your C9 a personal touch.

On the other hand, with the addition of an incorporated rail on the C9 Comp’s forend, there are a few nice tactical additions for you to consider. I love the Uni Max Micro Rail Mount red laser, as well as the Insight M Series LED x2 SubCompact handgun light.

Conclusion

All things considered, the Hi-Point is a very formidable CCW that outperforms its price tag and criticisms. My buddy was so thankful that I introduced him to Hi-Points – and although they’re not geared for everybody, they can make a great addition to anybody’s collection.

Hi-Point Firearms may not be the best weapons manufacturer out there, but their products may still be worth considering. Over the years, Hi-Point has developed a bad reputation for making ugly guns that are too heavy, but they’ve come a long way since their original lineup. While aesthetics are important, performance is what ultimately what matters most, and the CF-380 can shoot surprisingly well.

I’ve always kept an eye on this company because their products are affordable and reliable. Furthermore, as a lover of CCWs, I like the compact build and high-powered calibers offered by Hi-Point. I recently reviewed their impressive C9 and have already recommended it to several of my buddies. However, although the 9mm is a bit more powerful, I prefer the handling and affordability of .380 ACPs. That being said, it’s about time we take a closer look at Hi-Point’s firearms chambered in this legendary cartridge.

Hi-Point CF-380 Build

While Hi-Point’s CCWs have been criticized for their non-traditional appearances and overweight builds, the American gun maker has revamped their CF-380 to fit in with the times. Weighing in at 29 oz, Hi-Point’s unique design employs the traditional blowback design and forgoes the more common breech-locking system in order to keep their firearms as simple and affordable as possible.

Although Hi-Points may be marketed as budget-guns, you wouldn’t know it by looking at its impressive specs and components. Their .380 pistol is constructed with 100% American parts and includes some pretty sweet features. As a matter of fact, all of these handguns come pre-equipped with a 3-dot, fully adjustable sight system and even includes an extra rear peep sight too. Additionally, since Hi-Point is so dedicated to firearm safety, they’ve included an on/off thumb safety in addition to the magazine disconnect safety and free trigger lock.

From its lightweight, high-impact, textured polymer grips to its free lifetime unconditional warranty, the CF-380 was built for longevity. Hi-Points also feature slides cast from a zinc-alloy as opposed to machined-forged steel as another way to boost their durability. In yet another attempt at increasing their strength, these handguns feature components with integrated steel inserts. In fact, the folks at DemolitionRanch released a video on Youtube demonstrating exactly how tough Hi-Points really are. This video is the perfect proof that when it comes to durability, not much can compete with a Hi-Point. And although I don’t want to spoil the video, let’s just say the handgun takes about as much abuse as officer Murphy at the beginning of Robocop and still manages to function!

Hi-Point CF-380 Performance Review

At first glance, Hi-Points are cheap guns that are in dire need of a makeover; but once we took a closer look, its components and features told a different story. Now it’s time to examine the CF-380’s performance to see if this Hi-Point is even worth considering. After watching DemolitionRanch’s video, I was already beginning to be convinced that Hi-Points perform way better than their price tag suggests.

There are a lot of things to consider when buying a budget firearm, and the CF-380 operates well in nearly of these categories. For starters, it may not be the most ergonomic pistol out there, but it still feels decent in your hands. Furthermore, although Hi-Points utilize the outdated DAO blowback system, these handguns are surprisingly easy to control. Additionally, I was very impressed with their minimal recoil, especially considering the heavy punch provided by the .380 cartridges.

Next, in terms of their shooting abilities, these .380s are remarkably accurate and versatile. While most budget firearms are picky when it comes to their ammo, these pistols can handle just about any and all factory grade ammo and are even +P rated. Though you can’t compare the CF-380 to greats like the Beretta PX4 Storm, its above average accuracy shooting is something to behold.

Part of what makes these guns so trusty in the field is their 3-dot, rear-adjustable sight system which offers quick target acquisition and its decent trigger which allows for reasonably fast shooting. That being said, the first thing after its appearance that I’d change would be the trigger. The heavy break of Hi-Point’s trigger can be frustrating after a while.

As much as I liked the .380 pistol, Hi-Point’s .380 carbine is something else. Although it’s not the most attractive carbine on the market, the 3895TS is still pretty sweet. Outfitted with an all-weather, black-molded polymer, skeletonized stock, this gun can handle it all. In addition to its great stock, Hi-Point incorporated tons of great features and components into their .380 carbine including an internal recoil buffer, a grip-mounted clip release, and weaver style rails. Plus, for only $30 more, Hi-Point will throw in a forward grip!

To make the 3895TS the ultimate carbine, there are a few affordable aftermarket options to consider. First, I recommend getting yourself the Barska laser/flashlight combo. For great short range sights, check out the incredible Sure Shot Reflex Sight and the Bushnell Optics TRS-25 HiRise Red Dot Riflescope with Riser Block (1x25mm).

Next, in terms of their shooting abilities, these .380s are remarkably accurate and versatile. Last but not least is one of my favorite features of Hi-Points: the last-round lock open feature. Now with a gun as cheap as this, you’re bound to meet some occasional malfunctioning, but it’ll be way less than you’re expecting. My brother went through about 500 rounds until he had his first stovepipe which is pretty impressive. Overall, I’d go as far as to say that these guns are highly reliable, even in the toughest conditions.

Hi-Point CF-380 Magazines

Hi-Point’s American-made single-stack mags for their .380 pistols are nothing special but are still pretty reliable, to say the least. As I said earlier, I’m more impressed by what can go into the mags than by the mags themselves.
While these magazines are crafted from all stainless steel and given a smooth finish, I recommend picking up extras just in case. Check out Cabela’s or other websites for deals – they shouldn’t go for more than $20 a piece.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, I was surprised by how well Hi-Points perform. For such an affordable firearm, the CF-380 functions just as well as guns twice their price. Although I’d still recommend going for a more established brand, this Hi-Point is a great starter gun or backup gun to keep in the car.
